Siracusa, Italy

Welcome to our day in Siracusa…

This city is special to me as it is the birthplace of my mom (ciao mamma)!

There are a few reasons why Siracusa is special, and one of them has to do with our first stop…fullsizeoutput_34bb Our first stop in Siracusa was to see papyrus at the Natural Reserve Ciane and Saline.  Did you know that Egypt and Siracusa are the only two places in the world where papyrus grows!fullsizeoutput_34a1Following our visit to  see the Papyrus, we went to the pedestrian part of the island of Ortigia,  the historical center of Siracusa. We were mesmerized by beauty of the natural stone of the Baroque buildings and monuments. fullsizeoutput_34a9DSC_0012DSC_0013fullsizeoutput_34a5.jpegfullsizeoutput_2c96After a ton of walking, we earned the amazing (late) lunch we had at Caseificio Borderi Gli Artisti! All the ingredients are either from the Maestro’s (what the owner is known as) garden or handmade. We highly recommend this place! fullsizeoutput_2cd8fullsizeoutput_34c0DSC_0049fullsizeoutput_34c2fullsizeoutput_2cd9fullsizeoutput_2cdaWe continued our afternoon by strolling through the market and the streets of Siracusa. Ah so much beauty around! fullsizeoutput_34abfullsizeoutput_34b0.jpegfullsizeoutput_34b2fullsizeoutput_34b3Hope you’ve enjoyed Siracusa as much as we have enjoyed sharing our experience with you.  It truly is a feast for your belly and your eyes!

Cheers and thanks for reading!
